Flops of 20

Flops of 20
Adam Gilchirst

Pitted to be the frontrunner in the race of the highest scorers, he could not live up to the expectations from him. He could have been the difference if he clicked for his team and Australia would have been undisputed champions of all forms of cricket. Sadly, this was not to be and he succumbed under pressure. Probably people expected too much from him but the fact remains that he could not muster a single match winning performance and could not make a mark in this new-age version of the game.Andrew Flintoff: He was another key player who could not do justice to his talent. The whole of England had a lot of hopes flying on him and he could not play the game he is famous for. A handy player with the bat and the ball, he could not capitalise on the opportunities that came his way. Perhaps the fast paced format of the game did not suit him well and this was the reason this seasoned English player could not make a mark in this gala event.Stuart Broad: He will surely be haunted by the memories of the T20 World Cup for a long time. He made a notorious entry in the history books by giving away 36 runs-6 sixes from six deliveries from an over in which a highly charged Yuvraj Singh blasted his expertise away. Even apart from that, he did not have a peachy tournament and will carry back nothing memorable from this outing.
South Africa: They were the favourites entering into the tournament with many in-form players and the advantage of playing on their home turf. Sadly, they once again choked in the face of victory and failed to give their country a glimpse of one of the most important trophies of recent times. They will have to wait for some years again for such a tournament and till then, they will have to bear the tag of chokers which has stuck with them from a very long time.Australian team: It is true that they reached the semi-finals but their road was beset from the beginning of the tournament. They were given a rude shock by the Zimbabwean team right at the start of the tournament and this omen stuck with them as India outplayed them in the semi-finals. It was certainly not a World Champion worthy show by them in this tournament. Probably they were a trifle bit over-confident about their supremacy in this game and were reminded by the other teams that the top spot has to be earned at this level constantly and one cannot take their position lightly, no matter how good they are.
